In January 2011, the US Securities and Exchange Commission adopted Rule 17g-7 under the Securities Exchange Act of 1934 for credit rating agencies that have registered as a nationally recognized statistical rating organization (NRSRO) and are assigning credit ratings to asset backed securities (ABS). The rule will be effective on September 26, 2011.
