Ratings of Santander UK confirmed given insulation from pressures affecting Spanish parent
We have today confirmed the A2/Prime-1 debt and deposit ratings of Santander UK Plc to reflect our view that this bank is relatively insulated from the rating pressures currently affecting its Spanish parent bank, Banco Santander S.A. The outlook on the A2 senior debt and deposit rating is negative, reflecting our medium-term view of lower systemic support for large UK banks. We have also confirmed Santander UK’s C- bank financial strength rating with a stable outlook. This concludes our review of Santander UK’s ratings, which was initiated on 27 June 2012...

Multiple actions on Spanish banking groups following sovereign rating confirmation
We have taken a range of actions on the ratings of 31 Spanish banking groups, further to the confirmation of the Kingdom of Spain’s government bond ratings. Some actions additionally reflect bank-specific drivers, namely increased clarity about merger processes and heightened vulnerability to the stressed operating environment. As part of today’s actions, we have downgraded Liberbank’s ratings, maintained the review for downgrade of Ibercaja Banco following the termination of the latter’s planned merger with Caja 3, and confirmed the ratings of Caixabank, La Caixa, Banco Sabadell and Banco CAM. Overall, today's actions conclude the reviews for downgrade of 27 of the 31 banks whose ratings we placed on review in June 2012, while the ratings of four banks remain on review...

Outlook changed to negative on 17 German banking groups, 7 Dutch banks and 1 Luxembourg bank further to outlook change on respective sovereigns
We changed to negative the outlooks of selected German, Dutch and Luxembourg financial institutions further to our decision earlier this week to change to negative the outlook on the sovereign ratings of Germany, the Netherlands and Luxembourg. In the case of Germany, today’s change in outlook to negative affects the long-term debt and deposit ratings or the long-term guaranteed debt obligations of 17 German banking groups and several subsidiaries, whose ratings incorporate support from the German government and/or several German federal states or municipalities. In the case of the Netherlands, the change in outlook to negative affects seven banks whose debt instruments benefit from an unconditional and irrevocable guarantee of Dutch government. In the case of Luxembourg, only the Aa1 long-term deposit and debt ratings of one bank, Banque et Caisse d’Epargne de l’Etat, are affected...
