Hybrid Capital

Through the use of Moody’s Hybrid Tool Kit, the Hybrid Capital Group (HCG) assesses the relative debt and equity characteristics of hybrids and helps position hybrid ratings to ensure global consistency. The HCG is also responsible for updating and maintaining the hybrid data base, which is the primary repository for detailed information on outstanding hybrids.

- Request for Comment: approach for rating certain bank contingent capital securities and for incorporating support in ratings of subordinated debt
  We are considering two changes to our Consolidated Global Bank Rating Methodology as it applies to hybrid securities and subordinated debt issued by regulated banking institutions: (1) our proposed approach for rating contractual non-viability securities, one type of contingent capital securities (also known as CoCos); and (2) a proposed update to our approach for incorporating support in the ratings of “plain vanilla” subordinated debt.
