Moody's sees stable outlook for Australian ABS market

Global Credit Research - 21 Nov 2011

Sydney, November 21, 2011 -- Moody's Investors Service is maintaining its stable outlook on the performance of Australian ABS collateral and outstanding ratings.

The stable outlook, first assigned in Q1 2010, is supported by the accumulation of credit enhancement and the strong credit quality of receivables originated within Australian ABS.

We expect the default rates for underlying collateral to be steady, underpinned by resilient economic growth in Australia.

However, we also acknowledge weakness in certain sectors of the economy, particularly SMEs. This risk is mitigated in Australian ABS as the majority of receivables are linked to larger corporations and government entities.

During Q3, the performance of the Australian ABS market was stable, according to the report.

The sector saw a decrease in delinquencies across all programs, and exhibited similar trends in defaults and losses to Q2 due to the combined impact of elevated delinquencies during the first half of the year and the growth rate of defaults for vintages as they season.

Looking ahead, losses will be stable for the 2007-2009 vintages for the remainder of 2011 and into 2012, with the rise in losses for the 2010 vintage to slow by Q2 2012.

The report is entitled, Australian ABS Performance Review: Q3 2011. It can be found at www.moodys.com
