MERIS was established in 2003, as a joint venture between FinBi (Finance & Banking Consultants International) and Moody's to provide credit rating and research services in Egypt and certain other countries in the region. Headquartered in Cairo, MERIS focuses on issuing national scale credit ratings, opinions of the relative creditworthiness of debt issuers or securities within a given country. MERIS’ ratings, research and analysis cover corporate issuers, financial institutions and structured finance transactions.
MERIS’ ratings and procedures are independent and separate from Moody's. MERIS has its own rating methodologies, policies and procedures and independent rating committees.
FinBi was established in 1992 with activities covering public policy and strategic planning, economic and financial services and local and international development services. FinBi was one of the first institutions to introduce credit ratings to the Egyptian market, establishing its own credit rating activity in 1999.
