ASIA PACIFIC WEEKLY
Nov 18 - 25, 2015

In this week’s Asia Pacific Weekly, we take a close look at India’s masala bond market, which opens up a new source of funding for non-bank finance companies and government-related issuers in the country, although key challenges remain for the market to become a sustainable funding source.

We also present our 2016 outlooks for Australian, Japanese, and Korean non-financial corporates. Our stable outlook for Australian corporates reflects their solid balance sheets and high levels of liquidity, while muted domestic and global GDP growth will broadly support the stable earnings for Japanese corporates. And despite soft macroeconomic conditions in Korea, private-sector non-financial corporates will show stable credit quality, as their robust earnings seen in 2015 continue into 2016.

And our banking system outlook for the Philippines in the next 12-18 months is stable, supported by steady domestic economic growth, stable asset quality, and strong funding and liquidity profiles.

Finally, a reminder that we will be holding our China Credit Outlook Conferences in Beijing on 10 December and Shanghai on 3 December.

In addition, Moody's Inside ASEAN - Spotlight on Indonesia – will be held in Jakarta on 3 December. For full details and registration, please refer to our list below.

Australian RMBS: Housing Affordability Deteriorates, Sydney Worst in 14 Years
[23 Nov] Nationally, Australian households with two income earners spent an average of 29.3% of their monthly income on monthly mortgage repayments as of 30 October 2015, up from 28.2% last year. The current low mortgage interest rates have failed to offset the impact of rising interest rate hikes this month will further increase delinquency and default risks for mortgage loans.

Non-Financial Corporates: Australian: 2016 Outlook -- Weakness in Some Sectors
[23 Nov] Our overall stable outlook for Australia's corporates reflects their solid balance sheets and high levels of liquidity, supported by reasonably resilient macro-economic fundamentals. However, there is a clear divergence between the credit quality of companies in the mining sector, where weak prices and slower global growth are pressuring credit metrics.

Non-Financial Corporates: Korea: 2016 Outlook (Presentation)
[18 Nov] The outlook for private-sector non-financial corporates in Korea is that these companies will show stable credit quality, despite soft macroeconomic conditions. The robust earnings that many Korean private-sector companies have shown in 2015 will continue into 2016.
