ASIA PACIFIC WEEKLY
Jan 11 - 18, 2017

This week we take a closer look at Singapore’s three largest banks, which we expect will face continued downward pressure on their solvency metrics of asset quality and profitability in 2017. However, the impact should be manageable for all three, while government support will continue to underpin their Aa1 ratings.

In addition to the report, we will host a webcast on the Singapore banks this Friday.

We have also published the latest edition of our Asia Oil & Gas Quarterly newsletter, which – among others – highlights our expectation that refining margins will stay at USD5.0-USD5.5 per barrel through 2017.

Separately, we have also published an in-depth report on India’s oil refining & marketing sector, where lower subsidies -- on the back of crude oil price declines and the deregulation of diesel prices in 2014 -- are supporting the credit profiles of the three rated state-owned refining and marketing companies.

Our Asia Credit Conference takes place in Hong Kong tomorrow, and registration for the same event in Singapore next Tuesday is still open.

Finally, in case you missed them, replays of the webcasts on our first-time ratings for Genting Overseas Holdings Limited, PT Pan Brothers Tbk and Reward Science and Technology Industry Group Co., Ltd are still available.

Asia Oil & Gas Quarterly
[12 Jan] We expect refining margins will remain volatile in 2017, driven by bloated supply and the lagged effect of crude-price inflations on petroleum product prices. This, and more, in the latest edition of our quarterly newsletter.

Oil Refining & Marketing – India: Lower Subsidies and Higher Refining Margins Result in Better Credit Profiles
[11 Jan] The decline in crude oil prices since June 2014 and the deregulation of diesel prices in October 2014 has led to a structural decline in total subsidies in India, thereby lowering working capital needs and improving liquidity for the three rated state-owned refining and marketing companies.

ABS and RMBS – Japan: 2017 Outlook – Strong Job Market Will Underpin Stable Asset Performance
[11 Jan] The performance of assets backing outstanding consumer-related Japanese asset-backed securities (ABS) and residential mortgage-backed securities (RMBS) will be stable, with defaults and delinquencies to remain low.
