Moody's Investors Service
ASIA PACIFIC WEEKLY
June 15 - 22, 2016

In this week’s Asia Pacific Weekly, we look at the future of securitization in India, where the introduction of three significant regulatory changes over these past two months will have transformative implications for the country’s market. The changes will improve returns to investors, promote foreign investment, and improve the resolution process in the event of a default, thereby strengthening creditor rights.

We also examine the surge in investments in loans and receivables by Chinese banks; while these are supportive of earnings and capital generation in the short term, the development also raises asset quality, liquidity and interest rate risks in the long term.

And we discuss the introduction of property taxes by regional and local governments in China to replicate the revenue stability achieved by local governments in more mature economies.

In terms of events, we will be holding a briefing, Outlook for the Japanese Telecommunications Industry, in Tokyo on 7 July, and a teleconference, Central Japan Railway Company (JR Central)-Credit Impact of the Large-Scale Maglev Project, on 23 July.

And the 2nd Moody’s, ICRA and NYU Stern Conference: Opportunities and Challenges for Indian Credit will be held in Mumbai on 3 August.
