ASIA PACIFIC WEEKLY
27 Jan – 3 Feb 2016

This week’s Asia Pacific Weekly looks at the growing pressure on Asia’s credit markets in 2016, amid heightened concerns over China’s slowing economy and the pace of interest rate normalization in the US. Flat or slower growth for most Asian economies and capital flow volatility will weigh on the region's rated debt issuers, particularly in the corporate sector.

We also comment on the Bank of Japan’s negative interest rate policy, which will encourage Japanese banks to direct excess funds to assets with higher risk and/or lower liquidity than central bank deposits – a credit negative for the banks.

And our quarterly report on green bonds discusses the record volumes issued globally in 2015, with further growth expected in 2016 on the back of COP21 and evolving green bond standards in countries such as China and India.

Finally, our upcoming briefings in Australia and New Zealand will look at factors affecting credit in these respective markets over the next 12-18 months.
