Moody's Investors Service
ASIA PACIFIC WEEKLY
April 12 - 19, 2017

This week we published a report on Asian high-yield bonds, with issuance returning to robust levels, giving rise to stronger liquidity profiles and manageable levels of refinancing risk.

Specifically, during Q1 2017, 26 details totaling USD10 billion were launched to record the highest level of issuance since USD12.3 billion in Q1 2013, driven by investor tolerance for lower credit quality and active refinancing by issuers.

And on the back of China’s 6.9% GDP growth in the first quarter of 2017, we published a report on the fiscal stimulus that its central government is providing to the economy, which we estimate is larger than headline deficit figures suggest.

We have assigned a number of first-time ratings over the past week, including to to PT Saka Energi Indonesia (webcast tomorrow), as well as to China’s Dr. Peng Telecom & Media Group Co., Ltd. (webcast this Friday) and State Development and Investment Corp (webcasts in English and Putonghua on Monday).

And next week, we are also holding our Inside ASEAN – Spotlight on Malaysia briefing in Kuala Lumpur on 26 April, as well as our briefing on China’s property outlook in Hong Kong on 25 April.

Finally, I would like to draw your attention to our newly launched page The Big Picture, which offers a single access point to Moody’s views on themes that will shape the global credit markets in 2017 and beyond.

As always, we welcome your feedback on any of our publications or events.

Best regards,

[12 Apr] The government's ability to maintain growth and stability through such stimulus is positive if the funds go to sectors and institutions that will foster robust and sustainable medium-term growth. But if they contribute to medium-term financial stability and economic risks, that will be credit negative for the sovereign.
